Week 8- MBA6101- Surfing the Tsunami

 Surfing the Tsunami- Book Overview

Through this course, I have read Surfing the Tsunami: An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Options for Responding, written by Dr Todd Kelsey. This not only gave me a good understanding of what artificial intelligence is, but also how it is utilized in marketing and the different ways individuals or businesses can respond to it. One of the key takeaways is that artificial intelligence is here to stay and will be prevalent in almost all aspects of our lives, in one way or another. Ways to respond to AI include adapt, adopt or adept. Adapting references to slowly getting used to AI by being aware of it and its capabilities. Adopting is the utilization of AI and the tools associated with it and being adept is the best response and it revolves around creating AI itself. This can be done by learning code and creating data driven decisions in apps or programs.

I am in the stage of adopting artificial intelligence but slowly starting to a become adept. I use artificial intelligence with my phone and the facial recognition feature, or when I use Google maps to see the fastest way to get to a destination. At my job, my company provides API's (Application Program Interfaces) to customers so that they can integrate our services into their e-commerce shopping carts or internal systems. Sometimes, there will be an error with the implementation of these API's, so I have taught myself basic code to identify the error. Instead of handing those errors over to a tech, I am building my skill set to work with coding. It is important for individuals to take the steps to learn about AI so that they will be more marketable in the industry.
