Surfing the Tsunami- Become Adept in AI
When responding to artificial intelligent, businesses or individuals can either adapt, adopt or adept. Adept is the best response to AI because it gets the user directly involved with developing AI by coding and working with it. By developing AI, it gives the user the best understanding of it because they are needing to take what they learn, comprehend and process and then apply it to a scenario. To start developing AI, there are countless tools and resources to help with this as listed in the book Surfing the Tsunami by Dr Todd Kelsey. There are AI helper platforms and while these might be helpful, it is best for the user to truly understand core functionality first. There are also games out there to help individuals learn data science and AI. Videos and online courses can also walk users through this in a more relaxed environment with clarification and explanation. Lastly, using Apps is a good way for users to start of their skills and practice what they have been learning with AI.
As an individual who is not very tech savvy, I try to identify ways I am using AI on a daily basis. Google Maps uses AI to help me find a restaurant across town, my Apple iPhone uses facial recognition to open my home screen and my laptop auto fills responses when working. It is best for me to embrace these small AI contributions because they are not only helpful, but they will be incorporated into so much more in the future. Another way I have been working with AI is through the use of API (application program interfaces) at work. I work with businesses that want to add certain functionalities to their websites and this can be done with the use of APIs. While I am not the one writing the code, I can see filter through the request and response codes to identify errors.
