Week 6-MBA 6101- Guerrilla Marketing

Guerrilla Marketing and New Media Marketing

Before the introduction of modern age technology, businesses would market by through word of mouth, newspaper and physical ads. Now with the internet, radio, television and social media, marketing has taken on a whole new approach. E-media marketing, or marketing through the internet, is now the most common form of marketing. Today, 63% of the world's population uses the internet on a daily basis, according to DataReportal. That is 5 billion people in a day, thus making the internet the largest marketing source compared to other sources. This can be overwhelming to businesses but according to the book Guerrilla Marketing by Jay Conrad Levinson, the first three steps to internet marketing are beginning with a product or service, create a website and send out emails with hyperlinks to that website.

Using the new media marketing techniques can elevate a company's sales and increase market share. Some of these techniques include building a strong email mailing list, creating a blog or podcast, nanocasting, establishing an attention seeking website, teleseminars, webinars and affiliate programs to name a few. These are nontraditional ways for a business to market itself, yet they are sometimes the most impactful. Search engine optimization and automated marketing are also common practices in today's environment that can have a return on investment if done properly.

As a consumer that heavily uses social media, podcasts and blogs, I enjoy a more casual approach to marketing. I am more likely to purchase a product if it is discussed on Youtube or mentioned by an influencer on social media. I will also read product and company reviews to see if something is worth buying. In this environment when everything is online, I rely on other buyers' feedback to determine if something is worth my money. Reviews and affiliate programs have become a huge marketing tool for businesses becuase of this reason alone.
